My dog crawled into bed for pets while I was reading this - mostly because he’s a greedy nuisance, but maybe he also knew, a little, that I was reading about another special dog and felt the way her eddy rippled into our lives through your words. Hearts for Etta!

Oh, wow. I LOVE that story. Of course he did. Dogs know. And my favorite part is that our dogs are simultaneously greedy nuisances and loving, life-changing sages. And of course I have you to thank for the "dispatch" prompt. It helped me find my way into this wild, unwieldy obit. It got way off track word-count-wise for Slips, Slips. But I have some other dispatch-y essays that I'm whittling down and will be sending your way this week. And yes, as you said, your project "feels more important than ever." Amen. Those projects are the life rafts and the saving graces. Here's to "weird little projects" that make all the difference.
